Description
Find out how the complex hydraulic system which supplies the palace city of the Alhambra was devised and the importance held by water for the city of Granada, founded by the Iberians 2,700 years ago.
As was agriculture, the fountains and gardens that can be seen today were made possible by the existence of the Acequia Real (royal irrigation canal) and its slopes, which allowed water to flow using the principle of communicating vessels. You will also get the chance to learn about the importance of olive trees in Al-Andalus and the medicinal uses of Nasrid crops.
In addition to other places, you will tour the Sultana’s cypress courtyard and the Palace of Generalife, where you can appreciate the aesthetic and symbolic uses of water in Islamic palace architecture and enjoy the amazing views when we arrive at the Alcazaba.
We will take a tour that stretches from the entrance of the Alhambra by the lower gardens, the Water Tower and the Alcazaba, finishing in the small square of Cisterns.
Our guides, professionals who are passionate about the history of the Alhambra, will accompany you on this stroll through the many corners of the Generalife, its gardens and the most emblematic palaces that make it up the ensemble.
